First off the new feature. I just added the lock old comments feature which automatically locks comments after 60 days. While the necroposting rule here is 2 weeks comments are less visible. I also don't know if there's a way to change the length set for the feature. This is just meant to keep users from replying to years old comments which has been an issue in the past.
Secondly a definitive policy about AI. All forms of AI is banned in anywhere not on the discussion board. If you use chatGPT or any other forms of AI to write an article for you there will be consequences. For discussions theres a few guidelines
Discussions about AI and it's impacts is allowed.
Screenshots of nonuser generated AI is allowed.
So your not allowed to have AI write you a post or a response but are allowed to say talk about some weird response you got from Google Gemini.
Why did the staff team decide this?
To make a stance against AI. AI forms of creativity (eg art or music) are destroying what it's meant for. A form of self expression. We wish to not condone the use of generative AI in all forms. There's heavy environmental impacts to be considered. As well as how AI is taking away jobs from people and just giving companies a way out of hiring workers among other things. Due to this the rule will be non-negotiable. If a user has any ideas to tweak feel free to share but be warned staff will be less likely to negotiate this.
