I can speak as a gay man, there is absolutely an issue of this within our spaces as well. It's just "no, no, I'm not like those gays, I'm normal!" and telling femme gay men that "they're the reason gay men aren't taken seriously." as if being feminine in any way is a punishable offense. Whether they take estrogen (which I know plenty of gay elders who do) or if they simply - gasp - like m u s i c a l t h e a t r e, it's like they're trying extra hard to appease their straight guy friends, even if they have to throw their own community under the bus.

Gender exists for the same reason so many other labels do, for us to express ourselves and our experiences. For some, it doesn't matter at all, for others, it's extremely important to who we are and a very real experience, and some have complicated feelings. That's the beautiful thing about it, there's no correct way to experience gender. It is a personal aspect of our lives, and no one can define what it means for someone else.

The band is called All Thicc, 3/4 of the band are queer as well. And as of right now, none of my stories are published, they're still in early pre-production with character designs still being finalized.

I was in my high school's Thespian Troupe, both as an actor, and a stage manager or sound person. Also ran sound for a local theatre's production of Singing in the Rain for a summer.

I do agree that this thread has taken things a bit too seriously (although email-bombing the White House can get you into legal trouble, so I can also understand where those who are taking it seriously are coming from). It is exhausting reading a thread where it seems like everyone has already made up their minds about a situation and there are just a bunch of brick walls trying to get through to each other. Ideally, this should have ended with the "this was a joke" clarification instead of spiraling into a senseless argument.

^ I was speaking more generally, the only thing in my reply directed at you was the bit about Karen behavior, which I get what you mean now. There are other users in here that are making a mockery out of those of us who have a more difficult time understanding tone and have to analyze what makes a joke and what doesn't.

Just speaking as someone who has difficulty reading tone irl, let alone through text, yeah there needs to be more indicators that this is a joke. I did not know this was until looking through the replies (and also looking through the replies, I clearly wasn't the only one). I don't think it's necessarily "Karen behavior" to ask that a joke be made clear, and actively mocking the idea that someone doesn't understand a joke is immature at best and downright ableist at worst.

I think that when it comes to posting a joke like this, you have to think "what would happen if this post inevitably reaches outside of my target audience, how should I react to that?" and if your reaction is to insinuate that anyone who doesn't get it is dumb because it's "so obvious," maybe you shouldn't post it (this isn't necessarily directed towards the moderator, as I haven't see them getting defensive to the point of mockery in this thread).

Coming from someone pursuing a psychology degree, you can experience depression without having a depressive disorder. It's only seen as such when it's deviant (goes against societal norms), distressing (either to yourself or to others), dysfunctional (causing issues in your life) and/or dangerous (with the intent on ending a life). As far as this post goes, I don't see any of the four D's in this. However, depression is a state of mind that someone can experience without being diagnosed with MDD, and there's no need to worry too much about feeling that way from time to time, especially if it's incredibly mild and doesn't last for months at a time.

I think that "girlmenbyfem" (like girlm(asc)-enbyfem) would be a more fitting name following the boyf(em)-enbymasc naming convention.

It's something that you could coin since I'm not finding something like that.
