Butch is a term that is usually used as a form of gender expression. Typically, the term is used to refer to queer women who present in a masculine manner, whether through style or traits. However, some believe that the term goes beyond gender expression.[1]
While the term is primarily used among sapphic women, it is also used by non-binary and genderqueer individuals. The term has been connected to trans identities, some who identified as butch women may go on to identify as trans men or transmasculine.[2]
