Demifem or Demifin describes someone whose gender is partly fingender (feminine in nature) and partly another non-binary gender. The other part can include anything like agender, genderqueer, or xenogenders to name a few. Demifems may also identify as demigender, non-binary and/or transgender. Demifem is also a subset of demifemme.
Unlike demigirl and demifemme, demifem falls under the fingender umbrella, and is similar to artemian.
Demifem was created for those who don’t feel like they fit in the binary of female, woman, girl, etc. Demifem, demifeminine and demifemme share a similar name but are not the same, Unlike demigirl and demifemme, demifem falls only under the fingender umbrella.
Demifem can be used by any AFAB, AMAB or AIAB individuals.
History[]
The term demifem has origins in the original coining of demifemme. Demifemme was originally coined by shewhowalkswiththee on October 2, 2018, on Tumblr.[2] When the term demifeminine was coined (on January 23, 2019, on Tumblr), demifem was being used as a shortened form of the term.[3] It was created because some of those who related to being a demigirl felt uncomfortable with said term. Since the original coinage of those terms, they have been recoined and have updated meanings.
With the recoinage of demifemme, demifem also emerged.[1] Both recoinages occuring on r/demigirl_irl on Reddit. There was a minor dispute over what term was what and what both terms were to mean. Afterwards both terms remained seperate with their own meanings.
On December 6th of 2021, r/demifem_offical was born.[4]
