Welcome to our wiki's guide for how to use the Gender Template in the creation of a page! With some specific exceptions, every page on this wiki should use this template.

To add a Gender Template properly requires some amount of coding, including adding references. (This method of adding references is used in every type of template, including Galleries, even in Visual Editor.) If you don't plan on making very many pages on this wiki and you don't want to learn coding for just one or two pages, please don't be afraid to contact administrator HelenDaMelon or another wiki administrator to do it instead. If you'd like to learn how to use the Gender Template for future page creation, this guide is for you!

In page created and editing, please also refer to our Editing Guide and Examplegender (Template) pages.

Note: This page is designed to be viewed on desktop mode, not on mobile.

Usage Guide[]

  • This page uses the date "February 30th, 2050" to represent the date an event took place.
  • This page uses the username 'exampleuser' to represent a username.
  • Text written between parentheses - () - indicates an information insert/formatting directions; don't include them when actually making/editing a page.
  • Any image on this page can be clicked/tapped to expand it to a more readable size.

How to Add a Gender Template[]

To add a Gender Template to a page, go to the "Insert" dropdown on the right end of the toolbar in Visual Editor. Select the first item on the dropdown, "Template". Then type "Gender" into the box and press "Add" or the Enter key.

Gender Template Instructions 1

How to Fill in & Code Information[]

title1, image1, & caption1[]

Gender Template Instructions 2
Gender Template Example 1

First, type the page's name or gender's name into the first box, title1. Type the file name of the identity's flag, or the first/main flag if there are multiple, including its domain (png, jpg, webp, etc.) into the second box, image1. A domain of .png is used in this example. This text will result in the image seen on the right. In the caption1 box, type a caption for the image. Skip image1 and caption1 steps if there is no flag for the gender.

Coding References[]

Gender Template Example 2
Gender Template Instructions 3

To add references to a Gender Template, you must use standard wiki coding. To add a reference, type without quotation marks: "<ref>(link to source)</ref>".

To add a reference that you want to use multiple times (for example, for all of the flag, coined_by, and coining_date boxes) type: "<ref name=a>(link to source)</ref>" each time, or type the aforementioned code the first time and "<ref name=a/>" for other uses. Use a different reference name for each reference that you reuse multiple times, such as "<ref name=b>(source link)</ref>" and "<ref name=b/>" or "<ref name=c>(source link)</ref>" and "<ref name=c/>".

symbol1 & caption2[]

Gender Template Example 4
Gender Template Instructions 6

If the identity has a symbol to represent it, the symbol1 and caption2 boxes are filled in the same way as image1 and caption1. (Skip these steps if there is no symbol.)

alternate_names, type, system, & exclusivity[]

Gender Template Example 5
Gender Template Instructions 7

The alternate_names box should be filled in with any alternate names for the gender, such as "Genderbun" being an alternate name for bungender. Add a reference if applicable. The type box may be filled in with any umbrella term that goes over the identity. You can also add code to make it link to the page of the gender; for example, to link to the xenogender page, code "[[Xenogender]]". The system box can be filled in with any system the gender is in, such as fearphosial being in the Phosial System. This can be coded the same way as something in the type box. Finally, the exclusivity box can be filled in with any limits to who can use the identity, such as qirl being exclusive to those of a certain ethnicity. (The example used for this box is nonsense.)

coined_by & coining_date[]

Gender Template Instructions 5
Gender Template Example 6

The coined_by box should be filled in with the coiner of the identity and the platform that they did it on (Fandom, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc.), while the coining_date box should be filled in with the exact date of coining, or as close to the date as possible. If the coining date is unknown, "Unknown" should be written in the box. Both of these boxes require references as well.

Gender Template FAQs[]

Is a Gender Template required for page creation?[]

Generally, yes. Only under very specific circumstances will a Gender Template not be used; staff must be consulted before creating a page without a Gender Template. It will normally be obvious whether or not a page should have a Gender Template.

Can I add a Gender Template to a page without one?[]

Yes, please do! Generally, it will be obvious if a page isn't meant to have a Gender Template, so if one is created without the template, please feel free to edit the page and add it!

What if there isn't a flag/symbol for the identity?[]

If there's no flag and/or symbol for the identity and you don't want to create one, simply leave the image1 & caption1 and/or symbol1 & caption2 boxes empty. While they are preferred, images aren't required for the Gender Templates!

What if I'm still confused?[]

If this page isn't helpful for the creation of a Gender Template, please don't be afraid to contact wiki administrator HelenDaMelon or another of our wonderful staff members! We'll be happy to answer any questions or create the template if you don't feel comfortable doing so.
