Neo AGABs

Neoassignments (also known as neoAGABs) are a type of AGAB non-conforming label used by those who reject their initial AGAB and wish to assign themself something else. NeoAGAB labels may include the refusal to to disclose what one was assigned at birth, the idea that one's AGAB is irrelevant, or that one's current gender (for example: non-binary) is the one they have always been since birth.

NeoAGABs are not the same as Self-Assigned Genders At Birth, and do not necessarily involve assigning oneself a 'new' AGAB label.

XenoAGABs

A XenoAGAB, or xenoassignment, is a subset of neoassignment that is connected to themes of animals, nouns, objects, or aesthetics. NeoAGABs and xenoAGABs are related, but not the same, much like neogenders and xenogenders.

History

The terms neoassignment and neoAGAB were first mentioned on August 8th, 2022 by Tumblr user mourningmogaicrew. The first label officially coined under the neoAGAB label was Assigned Genderless At Birth. NeoAGABs were popularized in late 2022 and early 2023 by other users including gender-darling and revenant-coining.
