Gender Wiki

Tomboy is a form of gender expression in which one is female aligned and expresses oneself in a traditionally masculine way, be it through clothing, activities, or lifestyle.

It is important to note that tomboys do not always fall under the transgender umbrella because gender expression and gender identity are different things. Being a tomboy has historically been associated with being a lesbian, but this is often seen as stereotypical and inaccurate.

Tomboy is the masculine counterpart to tomgirl, male-aligned people who express themselves in a feminine manner.

Flag[]

  • Dark blue: Represents strength, confidence, and independence associated with tomboy traits.
  • Light blue: Symbolizes youthful energy, lightness, and the softer expression of femininity with masculine influences.
  • White: Reflects gender neutrality, flexibility, and the freedom of expression without adhering to rigid stereotypes.
  • Light pink: Represents the gentle femininity that many tomboys embrace, despite their appearance or behavior being traditionally seen as masculine.

These colors together represent the diversity and gender fluidity within the tomboy spectrum.

The other tomboy pride flag was created on an unknown date by beyond-MOGAI-pride flags. The light pink, borrowed from the transgender flag, represents feminine assigned genders. The brown, taken from the bear flag, represents one's masculine attitude and/or behavior. Finally, the dark blue represents one's masculine appearance.

The alternate tomboy pride flag was designed by Fandom user HelenDaMelon on March 2, 2023.
